Editorial Reviews:

The subversive songs of Tom Lehrer, the sardonic piano-wielding fugitive from Harvard, have corrupted generations of Americans since he first began recording and performing in the 1950s. His uniquely depraved wit has been forced again on an unsuspecting public' via Tomfoolery, the stage revue based on his ever-trenchant observation of the American scene. This new songbook, with old favorites unavailable for years as well as never-published songs, is the most comprehensive ever assembled. It contains the words, tunes, piano accompaniments, and guitar chords for these thirty-four classics:

The Irish Ballad

Fight Fiercely, Harvard!

Be Prepared

The Old Dope Peddler

The Wild West Is Where I

Want to Be

I Wanna Go Back to Dixie

Lobachevsky

The Hunting Song

I Hold Your Hand in Mine

My Home Town

L-Y

When You Are Old and Gray

The Wiener Schnitzel Waltz

Poisoning Pigeons in the Park

A Christmas Carol

Bright College Days

In Old Mexico

She's My Girl

The Elements

The Masochism Tango

National Brotherhood Week

MLF Lullaby

The Folk Song Army

Smut

Send the Marines

New Math

Pollution

So Long, Mom

Who's Next?

Wemher Von Braun

We Will All Go Together

When We Go

I Got It from Agnes

Silent E

The Vatican Rag

Summary: Brilliant
Comment: The number of songs and quality of arrangement in this book are fantastic.
Not only did I receive the book a month earlier than expected (I live in NZ), but I was overjoyed by the songs.
Any satire loving person, or just anyone with a sense of humour and love of music, will make great use of this book.
I recommend this book to any, and everyone.
Big thanks to Amazon and Tom Lehrer

Summary: Excellent book, but incomplete
Comment: If you're a fan of Tom Lehrer's razor-sharp wit and a musician, then purchasing this book is a no-brainer. That said, it is slightly disappointing -- but only slightly.

As other reviewers have noted, it's missing such wonderful songs as "Alma" and "Oedipus Rex," neither of which deserved to be cut. Additionally, "The Vatican Rag" lacks a section that has no lyrics, but would have been fun to play. Perhaps the most disappointing of all, however, is that "Bright College Days" is missing its entire middle, chopping the song to approximately half its proper length, and omitting some of the funnier lyrics!

That said, the book is well worth a buy -- Lehrer makes a great addition to any repertoire.

Summary: Hilarious
Comment: With lyrics and piano scores, I appreciate Tom Lehrer even more, especially by seeing how he changed chords to match the lyrics and to reflect the style of music. There are some easy pieces that I can play with just a little practice--I am an adult piano learner. My goal is to have fun. This book is great for that.

Summary: Not too many songs ... Tom Lehrer, give us more!
Comment: I decided to learn how to play the piano, and who better to teach me than the master himself? I guess I do need a bit more practice before playing the songs, they are not really for beginners, but it's a great carrot before my head when I practice duller pieces ^^

Reccomended! Tom Lehrer is the best!

Summary: Classic sardonic humor
Comment: This book is for anyone who wants to know the words and play the music from the classic recordings of Tom Lehrer from the fifties and sixties. It may not sit on the piano very well, though spiral binding will take care of that, it will make the player a hit at a party of like minded souls. These songs are classic, and should be shared, especially for anyone who tells you that people in the past were nothing but virtuous and all social problems are modern.

Also, politics has not changed at all.

We knew that.
