The bestselling author of Message in a Bottle and The Notebook returns with a deeply moving tale of first love and its transformational powers.
"When I was seventeen, my life changed forever"... So begins Nicholas Sparks' touching tale of Landon Carter, a teenage boy living in the small town of Beaufort, North Carolina in the late 1950s. Landon is a typical teenager who just wants to have a fun senior year before heading off to college. The last thing he anticipated is Jamie Sullivan, the sweet, pious daughter of the town's Baptist minister. But on the evening of Beaufort's annual Christmas pageant, Landon will undergo a change of heart that will forever alter the course of his life. In the months that follow, Landon discovers truths that it takes most people a lifetime to learn- truths about the nature of beauty, the joy of giving, the pain of loss, and, most of all, the transformational power of love.
Nicholas Sparks' most recent novel, Message in a Bottle has nearly 700,000 hardcover copies in print and was on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list for 28 weeks. The Warner paperback edition has over 1.5 million copies in print. In spring 1999, it was released as a major motion picture starring Kevin Costner, Robin Wright Penn and Paul Newman. A New York Times hardcover bestseller for 56 weeks and a paperback bestseller for well over a year, Nicholas Sparks' first novel, The Notebook (1996) has nearly three million hardcover and paperback copies in print combined.
From the Hardcover edition.

Customer Rating: Summary: Sparks at his best again........ Comment: Well I have read 8 out of the 13 books that Sparks has out and I own all of them and I just finished this one and this is Sparks at his best. It has the Sparks trademarks with its love, drama, and tragedy. This is a true survivor story and it is one of my favorite. It really takes you into both of the characters life and it brings you to love both of them. It is a real tear jerker when it nears the end, although I would have liked to know more on the end I overall loved the book. It is one of his shorter books but alot happens in the few pages that it has and it will keep you hooked from the beginning. I as always must recommend you pick this book up if you are a Sparks fan or if you like love stories with alot of drama.

By: Carly Tappan
Landon Carter Is a 57 year old man who lives in Beaufort North Carolina. In this book he reflects on his past; his childhood, school, and his first love. Landon is the son of a congressman. His father wants him to be successful and attend a good college, so he wants Landon to run for student body president. Landon wins student body president. He was to attend the school dance, but unfortunately he doesn't have a date. Landon looks around and decides on Jamie Sullivan, the strange daughter of a minister. Jamie is not like any other girl, she carries a bible with her, and acts strange. They spend more and more time together, since they are both starting in the school play. When Jamie and Landon are, together Landon realizes that he is becoming a better person, and he is falling in love. Through the twists and turns, Landon stays with Jamie. But Jamie is hiding a big secret from Landon. What is it? Will it turn everything around?
I liked A walk to Remember because I like love stories. This book really had a point to it. Jamie was making Landon a better person. I liked the change that Landon went through. He went from being a big jock, to a loving and caring person. I also like the part when Landon is looking for someone to go to the dance with. He took a chance and asked Jamie. He didn't care what other people thought about him asking her.
There wasn't very much in this book that I didn't like. I don't like how long Jamie waited to tell Landon about her having cancer. She waited to long, and she kind of just led him on. They got closer and closer and then she just dies. But other than that I think the book was great.!

Customer Rating: Summary: TOO SLOW FOR ME Comment: After reading "The Divide" I was expecting something more from Nicholas Evans. This was such a disappointment. I don't enjoy books written in first person, so after a couple of chapters I jumped to the back and even the finish was slow. A waste of money.........
Customer Rating: Summary: great quick read Comment: I am not a big reader at all but the story was really good. I would have given it a 5 but the reading was so predictable in the first half the book. I could read the first paragraph and then the last paragraph and not miss anything in between but the ending made up for it.
