Here are the definitions for the letter "l"


Lager
Beer that is stored in a cask or vat until free of sediment and crystal clear. A light, bubbly and golden brew.

Lambrusco
One of Italy's most successful and commercial wines. Available in red, white and rose styles. All are medium sweet and slightly sparkling.

Landwein
The German equivalent of Vin de Pays.

Leaching
the passing of liquor through charcoal is termed leaching. Tennessee whiskies are leached.

Liebfraumilch
Hugely popular German wine of QBA status. By law it must be medium sweet in style and made from a blend of grapes which can include Muller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Kerner and Riesling.

Limousin Oak
an oak grown in the forests of Limousin Province, France. Used in making the casks in which Cognac is aged.

Liqueur
Any of various strongly flavored alcoholic beverages typically served in small quantities after dinner. See also cordials.

Liqueur
A sweet alcoholic beverage made from an infusion of flavoring ingredients and a spirit.

Liqueur
commonly used as synonymous with cordial.

Liquor
A distilled, alcoholic beverage made from a fermented mash of various ingredients.

Liquor
commonly taken to mean “Distilled Spirits.” The federal government however, refers to liquor as synonymous with alcoholic beverages. That is, distilled spirits, malt beverages and wines.

One of the Commune AOC's in the Haut-Medoc in Bordeaux.

London dry gin
See Gin.

Low Wines
in distilling with a “pot still” there is a requirement of two distillations. Spirits from the first distillation are termed low wines. With the utilization of a continuous column still the heads and tails are commonly termed the low wines.

Lowland Malts
one of the four types of malt whisky made in Scotland and used as a base of Scotch whisky blends. Lowlands are usually lighter in style than Highland Malts.
